End wealth extraction & invest in our communities.

The Problem

Every day, New Yorkers are arrested and imprisoned because they cannot afford to pay fines and fees. New York must end this system of racialized taxation, which turns police and courts into debt collectors and imposes additional financial burdens on re-integrating New Yorkers.

How We’ll Solve It

We must end fines and fees associated with criminal legal system contact and invest in and support the people who have been harmed by the criminal and immigration systems.

End Predatory Court Fees (S.3979/A.2348) and Eliminate Parole and Probation Fees

eliminates probation, parole, and court fees, prohibits arrests or jail for unpaid fines or fees, ends commissary garnishment for fines and fees, and eliminates mandatory minimum fines.

Fund Excluded Workers (S.4482/A.5092)

creates access to emergency resources for workers who have been left out of unemployment benefits, including undocumented New Yorkers and people recently released from prison and immigration detention.

The Access to Representation Act (S.81/A.1961)

provides immigrants with free legal counsel for most immigration cases and helps stabilize immigrants’ lives.
